Overview of the
Children, Youth and Family Consortium
The University
of Minnesota is nationally recognized for its scholarship and resources
on children, youth and family issues, and many faculty, departments
and centers across the University are engaged in addressing the most
pressing concerns faced by families and the communities in which they
live. Since its inception in 1991, the Children, Youth & Family Consortium
has been charged with providing coordination, coherence, and a larger
sense of purpose to these diverse University-wide efforts.
The Consortium
is guided by a commitment to interdisciplinary work, integrating institutional
service and outreach into research and teaching, and providing for
University and community engagement around child, youth and family
issues. Through symposia, publications, ongoing work-groups, innovative
use of technology, partnership with local initiatives, and collaborative
grant-seeking, the Consortium is advancing university-community partnerships
and bringing attention to the University of Minnesota as an engaged
institution -- responsive, accessible, academically strong, and accountable
to students, faculty, and the public.
More than 9,000
individuals and organizations make up the Consortium, including
faculty, staff and students from the University of Minnesota, parents,
preK-12 educators, practitioners, health and mental health
professionals, nonprofit and business leaders, policy makers, and
citizens from all walks of life.
