Minnesota Council on Family Relations (MCFR) members: $25

Non-MCFR members: $35

Coming to the Capitol: Directions & Parking

To find out how to get to and park at the capitol, please visit the Minnesota State Legislature’s official website at: http://www.leg.state.mn.us/leg/faq/faqtoc.asp?subject=14. This site contains detailed directions, maps and even a video showing you how to make your visit as easy as possible.

 

Allowing yourself plenty of time to travel and park, and following the below tips, will make your visit to the capitol a breeze:

o   FOR METERED, STREET OR RAMP PARKING: Bring quarters. Meters do not currently accept cards or cash.

o   FOR A DAILY PARKING PASS: Daily parking permits are available in some lots and in the Centennial Parking ramp. The required permit can be obtained from Plant Management in room G-10 of the Administration Building. Call 651.201.2300 to reserve your pass.

o   FOR QUESTIONS ABOUT VISITING THE CAPITOL: Call 651.296.2881.

 

10/1/09 Checklist Training Detailed Agenda

8:30 – 9:00         Light Breakfast & Registration

Network, familiarize yourself with the capitol, and meet your hosts for the day

 

9:00 – 9:05         Legislator Welcome

                          

9:05 – 9:15         Introduction to the Minnesota Council on Family Relations (MCFR), Ellen Shelton, Wilder Research

                           Learn about MCFR’s mission, history and how this training is the result of a an exciting partnership

 

9:15 – 9:30         Introductions

Find out why fellow practitioners chose to attend and what they hope to get out of the training

 

9:30 – 9:45         Introduction to the Children, Youth & Family Consortium (CYFC) and the Family Impact Policy Initiative

Learn about CYFC’s mission and perspective on policy, and how their work with policymakers complements what you are learning at the training (and why that’s important!)

 

9:45 – 10:00       Overview of the Family Impact Perspective & The Family Impact Checklist

                           Understand how the family impact perspective is unique, and how to conduct an analysis to examine the impact of policies, programs, and services on families

 

10:00 – 10:30     Checklist Training (Large Group)

Generate a topic as a group in order to see the importance of targeting a relevant and timely topic on which you can have impact. Walk through a family impact analysis of the selected topic.

 

10:30 – 11:00     Checklist Training (Small Group)

Within your small group, identify a new topic to analyze. Staff will circulate to help you out along the way.

 

11:00 – 11:30     Q&A, Discussion & Evaluations

                           Process the day’s training, discussions and learnings. Share new findings with one another, including what was the most beneficial to you and where there is room for improvement.

                          

11:30 a.m.          Legislator Closing

 

Optional Activities

12:00  p.m.         Checklist Language Discussion Group (Transportation Building)

                           Together, we’ll take a short walk to the Transportation Building, where those interested will review the checklist over lunch and identify possible partisan language. Lunch not provided.

 

1:00                    Capitol Tour

                           A 45-minute tour offered through the Minnesota Historical Society’s Capitol Historic Site Program

 

2:00                    Optional Activities End

 

2:00  +                Schedule a Meeting with Your Legislator!
