Conversation. For those interested in additional information regarding
violence prevention a selection of web-based resources is listed below.
The purpose of the list is to provide an entry point for greater exploration
of the issues, but keep in mind that this is not exhaustive.

1. Preventing Violence in our Schools (University of Minnesota Extension
Service)
The University of Minnesota Extension Service offers a list of resources to provide
insights and strategies for working with teachers, students, community groups,
and families as they react to the recent school shooting tragedy.
2. Minnesota
Center Against Violence and Abuse
The mission of the Minnesota Center Against Violence and Abuse (MINCAVA) is
t support research, education, and access to violence related resources. Resources
available on this site includes articles and research, training resources,
bibliographies,
help in finding organizations, service providers, experts, and information
about events and funding.
3. Promising Approaches to Youth Violence Prevention
(Minnesota Medicine)
Promising Approaches to Youth Violence Prevention is a review of published
research revealing best practices for preventing violence.

to Prevent Youth Violence (Minnesota Department of Health)
Best Practices to Prevent Youth Violence is a summary brief addressing
the issue of why youth violence is a problem, prevention strategies, and
links
to other
state health resources.
National Resources
5. National Youth Violence Prevention Resource Center
The National Youth Violence Prevention Resource Center is a gateway to resources
for professionals, parents, youth, and individuals working to prevent and end
violence committed by and against young people. This site includes daily new
briefs on selected violence-related topics, spotlights including a World Report
on Violence and Health, and information on violence prevention topics.
6. Center
for the Study and Prevention of Violence (University of Colorado at Boulder)
CSPV works from a multi-disciplinary platform on the subject of violence and
facilitates the building of bridges between research communities and practitioners
and policymakers. CSPV collects research literature and resources about the
causes and prevention of violence. This site contains customized databases
for the public
to conduct searches by topics along with publications about violence research
and prevention.
7. National Center for Injury Prevention and Control: Division
of Violence Prevention
A Division of Violence Prevention in the Center for Disease Control’s
Injury Center focuses on five specific areas of violence prevention: child
maltreatment,
intimate partner violence, sexual violence, suicide, and youth violence.
This site contains specific information regarding each of these topics in
addition
to information about the activities of this division and publications.

Harvard Youth Violence Prevention Center (HYVPC)
HYVPC’s main areas of research emphasis include youth suicide, girl
perpetration of violence, and the evaluation of violence prevention programs.
Since the Center’s
creation in 2000, core faculty have written over 60 publications on youth
violence, expanding the frontiers of knowledge on such issues as child
abuse, adolescent
assaults, youth suicide, and gun violence. Information available on this
site includes the national violent injury statistics system, publications,
and research
information.
9. School Violence Prevention
The School Violence Prevention program is supported by the U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services. The program works to ensure safe schools
for all youth.
This site provides publications on the topics of school violence prevention,
child and adolescent mental health issues, information for parents, and
links to related web-based resources.
10. School Violence Prevention and
Intervention (Center for Effective Collaboration and Practice)
The centers aim is to improve services for children and youth with emotional
and behavioral problems. They help to create schools that promote emotional
well-being, effective instruction, and safe learning through supporting
effective collaboration
at a local, state, and national level. Research regarding school violence
and prevention and intervention is available at this site.
11. Virginia Youth Violence Project (The Curry School of Education)
The mission of this project is to identify effective methods and policies
for youth prevention, especially in school settings. The project conducts
and disseminates
research on the understanding and reduction of violent behavior. Information
about prevention, violence in schools, youth gangs, youth violence is available
at this site along with reports, links and a bibliography.
12. Partnerships
Against Violence Network
Partnerships Against Violence Network is a “virtual library” of
information about violence and youth-at-risk, representing data from
seven different federal
agencies. This site offers a research database to search by topic, information
about programs, and links to related web-based resources.
13. Youth Violence
Prevention Resources (National Library of Medicine)
This publication has been developed to provide a research basis to a
wide audience on the topic of youth violence prevention in the United
States.
The bibliography
reviews what has been written in the literature on the topic of youth
violence from January 1990 – September 2000. Included bibliography
topics include epidemiology of youth violence, risk factors for youth
violence, protective factors
for youth violence, suicide, interventions/preventions for youth violence,
internet bibliographies on youth violence, and internet websites on youth
violence.

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP)
Juveniles in crisis- from serious, violent, and chronic offenders to
victims of abuse and neglect- pose a challenge to the nation. Charged
by the U.S.
Congress to meet this challenge, OJJDP collaborates with professionals
form diverse
disciplines to improve juvenile justice policies and practices. A list
of relevant OJJDP
publications, programs, funding opportunities, events, and other resources
for the following topics- child protection, core resources, corrections/detention,
courts, delinquency prevention, gender/race/ethnicity, health, law
enforcement, offenses/offenders, and schools- are available on the
website.
15. National Center for Mental Health and Youth Violence Prevention
The National Center for Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence
Prevention is a training and technical assistance center for more
than 160 Federally
funded projects that engage school districts, mental health centers,
community agencies,
and Native American tribes who are working to promote mental health
and youth violence among children, youth, their families, and other
adults.
Resources
available on this site are Center developed annotated bibliographies
and fact sheets along
with information about funding and a virtual library that enables
an individual to search for publications, tools, and other resources
developed
by the
Center and other organizations.
