About the CYFC
Scholars Program
The Children, Youth and Family Consortium (CYFC) recently
selected four Scholars and three Fellows to participate in its CYFC Scholars Program.
Through the Scholars Program, CYFC aims to generate new knowledge in the emerging area of study of the intersection of educational and health
disparities, create opportunities to apply that knowledge to the work of
practitioners and policy makers, and provide a professional development
experience enriching the participants’ work and the work of CYFC.
The Scholars Program provides Scholars and Fellows
the opportunity to learn information and skills from each other and find
potential collaborators. In
addition, CYFC works with Scholars and Fellows to conceptualize a model for
understanding the intersection of educational and health disparities and how
the body of knowledge created as a result of the Scholars' and Fellows'
research will contribute to explicating mechanisms within the model.
Awards
Scholars work with CYFC for at least 4 years,
conduct a significant research project related to the intersection of
educational and health disparities, and work closely with CYFC to translate,
disseminate and apply research findings. Scholars receive $25,000 per year for
four years to support their involvement in the Scholars Program and select research
project expenses.
Fellows are chosen annually. They receive $5,000
for one year to support a small research project, pilot work, or the
development of an evidence-based applied or scholarly product related to their
current research. They join the Scholars Program and may participate in these
networking and co-learning experiences beyond the one year of CYFC support.
Meet the Scholars
and Fellows
CYFC
received more than twenty-five proposals, all of them addressing important
issues related to the intersection of health and educational disparities. The Scholars and Fellows were carefully
chosen to represent a range of research topics but also to create synergies
within the Scholars Program and themes within the body of research that will be
generated as a result of this program. They were also chosen to represent diverse roles at the University,
disciplines, and University units. Individuals selected are faculty, research
staff and graduate students from six disciplines and six colleges:
