Seniors and Intergenerational
Issues: Policy
This section reviews
literature, research and helpful resources pertaining to older adults
as well as emerging intergenerational issues.
Vital aging addresses
issues of lifelong learning and maintaining civic engagement. It also
touches upon topics concerning seniors and health such as long-term
care and the financial aspects of providing health care to the aging
population.
Intergenerational
issues arise in multi-generational family situations such as grandparents
raising grandchildren and also in fostering relationships between
the young and the old.
National Association of State Units on Aging
NASUA was founded in 1964 as a national non-profit membership organization comprised of the 57 state and territorial government agencies on aging. The mission of the Association is to advance social, health, and economic policies responsive to the needs of a diverse aging population and to enhance the capacity of its membership to promote the rights, dignity and independence of, and expand opportunities and resources for, current and future generations of older persons, adults with disabilities and their families. NASUA is the articulating force at the national level through which the state agencies on aging join together to promote social policy in the public and private sectors responsive to the challenges and opportunities of an aging America.
Policy Briefs on Elder Care
The Center for Family Policy & Research at the University of
Missouri publishes policy briefs on a variety of child and family
related issues. The briefs are designed to provide policymakers and
the public with research-based information to help inform decisions
that have the potential to impact the well-being of children and
families.
The
Aging of Minnesota
To better understand
the effects of an aging population in Minnesota, Humphrey Institute
Policy Fellows examined policy at the national as well as state and
local levels. They also interviewed local experts on aging and rural
residents in or nearing retirement.
