A local
community group Unidos Para Los Niños of St. Paul, Minnesota,
initiated this project. They applied for and received funding from the
Center for Urban and Regional Affairs (CURA), University of Minnesota
for a part-time graduate research assistant to conduct the necessary
research. With the help of the Children, Youth, and Family Consortium
of University of Minnesota, which housed the graduate research assistant
and provided guidance, support, and feedback from the very beginning,
this project was completed successfully.
Misty
Heggeness was the graduate research assistant for the project. She has
a Bachelor of Science in Family Social Science and Spanish. Misty has
spent the past four years working within the Latino community of Minnesota
on issues related to domestic violence, community building, and emergency
needs. She has also worked with the Instituto Nacional del Menor in
Mérida, Venezuela on issues related to child welfare. She is
currently completing a Master's degree in Social Work and Public Policy
at the University of Minnesota.
Special
thanks to Jenny Keyser of the Children, Youth, and Family Consortium
and Gwen Bhagroo of Unidos Para Los Niños for their continual
support and guidance throughout the project.
